History
Mothbaria is Afzal’s home village. This is the place where he was born, begged for his daily food, contracted rheumatic
fever, and eventually left at the age of seven to either find a hospital in Dhaka that would take him in – or die in the process.
(See Afzal’s Story)
And this is the place Afzal never forgot. After surgery and subsequent adoption in America, and after some tumultuous early teen years and subsequent acceptance of
Jesus Christ as his personal savior, Afzal returned to his native village. To
his astounded relatives and other villagers, who had long given him up for dead, he brought clothing, blankets, and funds
to help repair roofs, build latrines and provide other basics of life.
From this initial visit Afzal developed a vision
and plan to help raise the standard of living in his former village – and to share the gospel message that had so dramatically
changed his own life. Hakim Development Fund (HDF) was born.
Since Afzal’s first visit he and HDF have provided funding and support
in the following ways:
- Tin roofs
- Drinking water wells
- Medical supplies
- Clothing
- Rice making equipment
- Rickshaw for family business
- Cows to begin developing other
life sustaining resources
- Planting Mahogany trees to
harvest
- Elementary School - This is
the major ongoing Mothbaria ministry supported by HDF. Prior to its completion
there was no education for children of the village.
